Food note.

Eating to save the planet. It's pretty much what I do. It works well for me.

Of course, ideally, I would be vegan. Or at least vegetarian.

But I have felt in the last few years that my lifestyle makes it very difficult to find the time and resources to keep my body nutritionally satisfied on a vegetarian (let alone vegan) diet.

Part of this could be seen as laziness. But, for now, this weakness of mine is a reality and I don't feel I have the energy or resources to change it.

If I treat meat as a treat, instead of a staple, everything feels much better. I still get the bursts of easy-to-digest protein I need when I feel I need them. I don't feel deprived or grumpy about sacrificing too much in the face of such a greedy world.

Using fruits, veggies, beans, and grains as filler gives me lots more energy than eating a lot of simple carbs. I treat things like bagels, crackers, white bread, chips, pastries, soda, and beer as poisonous items that I can consume in small quantities (or sometimes large quantities - I ate an entire mini baguette yesterday in one sitting) as treats, but shouldn't consider to be food.

We are omnivores after all...

For the most part, I have stopped eating red meat, and only eat whole grain breads, natural jelly, and peanut butter. Not a big change, but better than fast food 3x a day LOL

That sounds like a fabulous framework for healthy eating to me! :)

I fully believe that being a responsible omnivore does more good than being vegan or veggie. It shows people that there is another option, it is non-threatening and inspiring to other meat eaters, it gets to more people who are the ones you want to actually get to change than being millitant does. and I can't spell. anyhow, I agree fully.

I like the way you think! :) It does make sense. There are vastly more people who eat meat, and don't want to stop, who could do a lot of good by just sourcing their chicken more carefully or cutting down on red meat a little. Maybe more good than thinking it's veggie-or-no-good-at-all. Also there's only a fraction of people that would go veggie, and so many more who could cut down a little and thereby save a whole lot. <3
