So, um. I'm confuzzled. I wrote a message to Livejournal about my gift certificate. See, the amount to renew my account was $19.95, and the Livejournal Fairy (I still don't know who it was!) gave me $20.
I was totally looking forward to using the extra nickel on a 99 cent Livejournal Virtual Gift, because I think the gifts are very silly and cute. I haven't purchased any in well over a year, as I've been seriously pinching pennies, but I used to give out maybe 4-5 a year for birthdays and such because I like 'em.
I had this recollection of using a leftover gifted nickel for just such a purpose a couple years ago. But, when I renewed, Livejournal sent warnings that if I didn't use all of my gift certificate in one transaction, that any "excess is wasted".
It's a nickel, who cares, right? But I thought I'd write and say, "Hey, you got an extra 94 cents out of me for letting me keep my nickel last time. Now you won't and it seems kinda stingy. Livejournal is all ad-heavy and weird now and this is an added bummer. Seems like you don't like your members very much. Just wanted to let you know."
I got an email from them back right away, which I was afraid to open for several days. (I don't deal well with confrontation, and/or especially the consequences of confrontation.)
I finally opened it, and the first sentence was something like, "the 'excess wasted' policy has always been in effect, that feature hasn't changed" and I immediately deleted the rest of the (rather lengthy) email because I didn't want to read snark about how I was wrong. I have a clear recollection of having a leftover nickel on my Livejournal account from something, at some point, severl years ago - perhaps it was not a gift certificate.
Anyway, there's a dollar in my account now.
Um, thanks? Yay! I'm gunna buy a silly virtual gift for someone! Cuz it's funny.
Now I'm kinda curious what the rest of the email said, heh.
The moral of the story is: complain to Livejournal and they will snark at you and give you money? Or something. Hehe.
