I am absolutely in love with snow. We had an unexpected little dusting yesterday that left a thin, gorgeous little blanket of white for me this morning. I am up, going to change clothes, find my camera, and take a walk to get coffee before it starts to melt.

Chris came over (after spending all day digging out his car, de-icing it, and putting on chains, poor thing) and we went to Ristretto for coffee. Took pictures along the way, of snowy streets and coffee and such.

This is our backyard from my bedroom window, chairs and recycling bins with mounds of snow on them.

Feeling a bit better after shoveling for an hour. So much snow. Preston felt sorry for me because I'm so much weaker than him and tried to get me to go inside, but I was honestly enjoying myself even with the slow progress.

Tired now, ready for a hearty breakfast and then coffee and a walk to the grocery store for flour. I will never tire of the quaint little stores in my childhood neighborhood. I'm so lucky we found this house. So lucky to be living here.

Happy Things: Beautiful snow, a camera to take pictures of it with, a happy snugglepuss, the best roommate ever, plenty of food and drink, a day off work, delicate, gentle snowfall even though it's currently above freezing. Looking forward to seeing Chris soon.

A little stir crazy. It's snowing again. Snowed overnight, so now we have around 6 inches (hard to tell with all the drifting - it's a foot in places) covered by a sheet of ice covered by another couple inches and still gaining.

I do not understand how anyone made it to work today.

Considering braving a trip downtown, but the buses keep getting stuck and I don't know how long I want to stand around waiting for something that may never come. But I'd kind of like to see Backspace and get a couple small presents for pHunk.

If school is closed again tomorrow, I may go in Wednesday for six hours and that would be it for the week. Brilliant.

I wish I felt happier. I should be totally blissed out, but I'm anxious and upset and sad. Might have to break down and take a Xanax, to take the edge off. Hope it doesn't put me to sleep. I've already slept far too much.

Maybe breakfast and a walk to Ristretto will help. Planning for cookie making all day. Need to buy more flour. Going to need a lot of gingerbread, heh.

(Happy Thing Meme: Day 5.) The snow is so gorgeous outside.

It's very cold and windy out there. It'll take some time for me to brave it for another walk to Ristretto. Gotta take pictures though. It's too pretty not to.

From weather.com:

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW AND FREEZING RAIN REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM THIS MORNING TO 1 PM PST SUNDAY.

A STRONG MOISTURE LADEN PACIFIC FRONTAL SYSTEM WILL MOVE INTO THE AREA THIS WEEKEND. THIS SYSTEM WILL BRING A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF SNOW AND FREEZING RAIN TO THE GREATER PORTLAND AND VANCOUVER METRO AREA... AS WELL AS THE LOWER COLUMBIA RIVER VALLEY... AND THE INTERSTATE 5 CORRIDOR IN SOUTHERN WASHINGTON.

SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 5 TO 10 INCHES ARE EXPECTED FROM THIS STORM BY THE TIME PRECIPITATION CHANGES OVER TO SLEET OR FREEZING RAIN LATE TONIGHT OR EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. SIGNIFICANT ICE ACCUMULATION IS EXPECTED TO FOLLOW THE SNOW IN SOME AREAS SUNDAY MORNING... PARTICULARLY NEAR THE GORGE AND ALSO IN WIND PROTECTED VALLEYS.

I was just telling Chris last night how we're due for another ice storm. Portland is known for its freezing rain. Not sleet. Liquid rain that freezes to the surfaces it hits on contact, creating thick coverings of ice that weigh down and knock down tree branches and turn streets and sidewalks into ice rinks. It makes things look like they're encased in glass. It's beautiful and terrifying. I haven't seen this in over five years, and we normally get it every three. Eeep!

it's snowing!

Like, a lot!

(It never snows in Portland. Especially not on Christmas.)

I was NOT this good this year!

*glee!*
