we learn more listening than speaking. some of us realize that though it is difficult, sometimes painful work, to learn is better than to remain ignorant. and there are wonders and treasures to be found in the process. so we keep quiet, while they keep talking, talking, talking, learning nothing, teaching us only how deeply their ignorance lies, permeating their being, causing an ache that seems temporarily alleviated by incessant speech.

quietness comes naturally to me. still, it takes a strong, steady heart to endure their noisy ignorance in graceful silence. grateful for this gift.
