omg i just burned myself so badly with a ghost pepper trying to cook for josh.

this pepper came from cynthia's garden, and all she called it was "a spicy one" so i figured this meant Portland spicy which is slightly hot. we barely get enough sun here for hot peppers so the "hot peppers" i've gotten at farmers markets have always been about as mild as a medium-hot jalapeno or maybe a serrano.

so i pulled out the seeds with my fingers and sniffed it to see how spicy it was.

apparently i touched my face while sniffing?

what started as a burn just under my nose started spreading all around my mouth and up my cheeks, progressively getting hotter and hotter and hotter and turning my face bright red, haaaaaahahahaha omg.

I've burnt myself with serranos before but this was entirely different.

i frantically googled ways to calm the burning and started by dunking my face into a bowl of heavy cream lol. then rubbing with lemon slices. then swiping with alcohol. then i just started rotating the milk and lemon, and occasionally trying to wash with soap or alcohol in between.

lolololol still burrrnnniiiiing.

after getting the concept that breaking down the capsaicin oil was the goal, i went for my pumpkin enzyme mask. my face is finally not burning, phew. my fingers still are but that i can deal with. also the slight burn on the inside of my nose is disconcerting and making me sneeze, but mostly just kind of amusing.

WOW.

that was a learning experience, hahahahaha.

REALLY glad I didn't get any in my eyes, damn.

handle with care!

I am not ever slicing into a mystery pepper ever ever again. i don't like spicy food anyway, josh can just have bland stuff and use sauce to spice it up, sorry dude.

hahahahaha ow. it burrrrrrrrrrns
