weekend recap/decompress
May. 16th, 2022 08:45 pmIt occurs to me that I don't really know how to write anymore. Did I ever? I think I did once. I got mostly As in college, for courses that were mostly writing-based. Magna Cum Laude. (My father was a Suma. I was fake smart. Able to appear smart in certain contexts. He was actually brilliant.)
Anyway. I give up on trying to capture and retell every moment of our glorious race weekend in Long Beach, Washington, because it would take 3 days of writing to detail 3 such full days of living.
It was full. Gloriously uplifting and alive-making. Even with all the grey and cold and rain. That we live in so much of the year, here. It was at least not at all bitterly cold - 50s is tolerable, with a coat and fuzzy legwarmers. "You look so comfortable. I want to be comfortable," a local lady exclaimed behind me as I headed out of my favorite coffee shop in Astoria on my way home. People were really into my legwarmers last weekend. The cozy factor is high. I am so glad I bought them.
..
The cutest part of the beginning of the 5k sunset sand run was the excited doggos that were getting ready to run, woofing in anticipation and tugging on their leashes. sooooo cute doggos.
This video clip of my finish (Estella crossed right before me but it turns out she also crossed the starting line earlier than I did, so according to our chip time we actually tied) is the funniest because of the doggos, especially the tired one that comes trotting along behind Kevin. Teh tiredest boi! lol
..
completely unrelated, I think my biotin supplement might actually be working a little bit. my nails are finally starting to feel a bit stronger, and my hair looks and feels thicker and fluffier. My dermatologist even called my hair "nice and thick" which I haven't heard anyone say about my hair in well over a decade.
(I'm going to keep writing about the weekend and about today, but in chunks.)
Craving crunchy salty foods like whoah. Letting myself indulge, today.
My (surgically reconstructed) hip is screaming at me and I am pretending that it has nothing to do with my new obsession with running.
(My surgeon told me in 2003 to "never run.")
sigh.
