sandman is too heartless. it reminds me why i dislike gaiman as an author. he makes beautiful worlds and then ruins the best parts of them for fun and profit. if that's what it takes to move the story forward, i'd rather not have the story.

from what i remember from reading (or trying to read) Gaiman in the early 2000s, Death never bothered me as a character, or particularly charmed me either. She just is and that's fine, it's not like she goes around killing really, she just picks up the pieces, closes the doors. the only character I enjoyed was Delight/Delirium. I always loved the *idea* of Dream, but the execution is terrible. I remember having a similar revulsion when I read American Gods. I suppose for me, my experience of the emotional content just feels very much like what I feel in life with things like the mass extinction event, and i just don't want to feel that way when I'm reading fantasy. I only watched the first episode of the show, and losing Jemeny was enough to completely disgust me. I should have double checked to ask "if the dog dies," I figured, knowing Gaiman, that she would come to a grizzly end, but even knowing it beforehand wasn't helpful. i have no interest in experiencing emotions like that outside of *actual* loss and unnecessary death that I've already experienced too much of.

Omg, yes, I hated that scene so much with the Raven. 😭😭😭

It's indeed very dark. I can understand that, not wanting to experience these feelings in fantasy.

Delirium didn't even make an appearance, sadly. I kept waiting for her to show. She's my favorite too.

I do agree that Dream's character was rather poorly executed.
