forgot to mention that i spent ten minutes trying to carefully escort a paper wasp out of my studio, today. it was time well spent, even if it delayed my (much needed) coffee break. she flew in while the window was open and she didn't know how to get out.

i love paper wasps. and dirt daubers. paper wasps especially because they are so extremely forgiving and gentle and kind. and they make really pretty nests. i have never been stung by one. i find them perfectly beautiful.

once when i was rock climbing outside in idaho, i stuck my hand in a hold and brushed my knuckles against a paper wasp nest that i could not see. a wasp flew out. I was stuck with nowhere to go on the wall and apologized to her profusely while she hovered agitatedly in front of my face. but eventually, she reluctantly accepted my apology and flew away.

i have never forgotten her kindness.

(i had a similar experience with a dirt dauber, when i mistakenly disturbed her nest.)

i think these wasps are magical and beautiful.

I've been away from DW for a good bit getting back into it after therapist suggested journaling.

I'd never heard of 'paper wasp' just plain old wasp. So at first I thought you had a cool paper machet wasp or something.

I've swallowed a bee or a wasp of some sort at one point and been stung on the inside of my throat... so i am whole heartedly terrified of all stingy flying waspy bee things :)
