had the most amazing day with tyler omg omg omg.
i love him so much.
sigh.
we climbed a big mountain and some small hills, admiring wildflowers and just chatting easily.
it's so funny how i get so worked up about him when we are apart, and feel endless calm when we are finally together.
he let me feed him all sorts of delicious treats and drinks and i cooked us dinner (elk steak and seared veggie medley with red lentils) and he played piano with josh late into the night.
he mentioned a margaret atwood book he said he thinks i would like, called Oryx and Crake. it sounds perfect for me tbh, i will put it on my list.
also suggested a bunch of ursula leguin, who i am just starting to dive into. he thinks i would love her short stories, like The One Who Walks Away from Omelas and a couple of other weird obscure ones. It might have been finley who recommended the dispossessed or something along those lines. I'll have to poke around at her work this summer.
Cook Hill was a wonderful hike and a perfect alternative to the cluster that is currently Dog Mountain. in wildflower season, Dog gets mobbed and they now require permits for hiking it on weekends.
Cook Hill had more elevation and prettier views and was a bit longer of a journey. Very little balsamroot but tons of grass widows and avalanche lilies and other wildflowers. and a few weird mushrooms. we had fun.
we saw more than our fill of balsamroot at rowena crest, where we ended up getting a bit fried. It was just very hot and windy and exposed. but wow all the flowers. such a beautiful area.
memaloose was shadier and quieter and more interesting, and i finally found my shooting star flowers there. tyler wanted to walk up the south side of the trail, but after about ten minutes of that i turned us around. it was just more balsamroot and larkspur and sun and as pretty as that is, it isn't where the shooting stars tend to be.
we headed down the lower trail and I found them not twenty steps in. (tyler strolled right past them.)
i only found three, but it was enough for me to feel very accomplished for the day. mostly i was just so happy to spend time with my friend. and catch him up on my life. and share the hoplark sparkling water which he adored and plans to order a case of. "it's so good!" :D
so so so melted from the sun and sore from hiking and tired tired.
so happy.
must go crash nau.
