gentle sparkly sunday
Nov. 5th, 2023 04:26 pmoof, another beautiful day full of sparkles and beauty.
had a lovely morning, with coffee in my new mug and a delicious fruit and yogurt and chia seed breakfast. Broke open a new pomegranate for us to share, they're relatively inexpensive at the moment and so big! the seeds are like little magical jewels of health and well-being. (even if it takes 20 minutes to get to all of them, and several end up flying across the kitchen in the process, lol.)
during my break, i had coffee, bought some artwork from a local street vendor who seemed like he needed support, and who was kind, picked a dozen more persimmons (still leaving some for neighbors within reach of shorter arms than mine), took photos with roses, and sat in the rose garden until it started to sprinkle.
drove home in a river, the rain was coming down so hard! hydroplaning and witnessing bright flickers of lightning! that was exciting! by the time i parked in front of my apartment, it was back to regular easy rain.
when i got back into the studio, as i started sparkling, i was startled by a honey bee sitting quietly and unfelt on my forearm and shook her off before i realized what it was. I didn't see where she landed, but thought, whatever that insect was, i'll see if i can escort it outside after i'm done sparkling.
alas, when i was done and had cleaned up and escorted out my last customer, i found the helpless little bee in a spiderweb, under my tea table setup, a spider tending to her dutifully.
i felt so guilty! also circle of life and all that, the bee probably wasn't going to make it back to her nest in the rain anyway, they have short little lives, but oh, it wasn't my intention to feed her to the spider. oops! so sorry. but yay for the spider? whose diet was probably entirely weird little house beetles up to that point. hope she enjoys her feast, at least. sigh.
life is mysterious and sometimes bad and often very beautiful.
came home and re-heated and devoured the second half of the tomato soup i made from scratch last night. tomatoes, red onion, butter, fresh oregano, and sea salt + heat and time = heaven.
now my goal is to recover, listening to the soft rain against my window, drink some cocoa brew, processed what i learned from my ladies today, and wait until I feel ready to poach some quince and bake a pumpkin pie. I'll have to see if the carrots are still good enough for carrot cake, and I'd like to make an apple crisp, as well, but i'll start with the quince and pie and go from there. the lovely thing about quince is that the poaching with a cinnamon stick and whole cloves makes the entire apartment smell like heaven. and then you have cinnamony sweet soft rosy tart warm fruit to munch on. it's also lovely as a crisp with a cinnamon honey oat topping.
because of the time change i was able to get up early enough to snag a lookout tower for early may. a nice mini getaway perhaps, with only a two mile hike to get to, this is the same one tyler and I are visiting this week so barely over an hour drive to get there - i could link it with a stay in government camp somewhere with a hot tub the night before or after, we shall seeeeee.
