delicata gift
Sep. 27th, 2020 04:58 pmon a happier note, the squirrels planted us a perfect delicata squash. I have been watching the squash plant for a while, it had 5 blossoms, but only one fruit. thought it might be pumpkin, since that's what i usually share seeds from. But I wasn't entirely sure what kind of squash it was until we got home last night and it had completely ripened while we were away - a perfectly formed delicata. I just went to test it for ripeness, and it popped right off the vine, the skin is perfectly firm-but-slightly-dentable with a fingernail. So grateful the lawn maintenance crew somehow allowed it to grow and ripen undisturbed, and somehow a bee found a blossom. It has a couple small nibbles out of the skin but nothing bad, it's a perfect little squash, we will eat it and delight and be grateful to the squirrels and share all of our squash seeds with them :)
