These are the pumpkins Myrrh and I carved the day after Halloween. There weren't any evil spirits to chase off. We did cute things. Myrrh did the white pumpkins: turtle and birds. I did the big orange pumpkin, a moth, a la the Someday Lounge's "Viva L'arte" logo:

Hooray Jack-O-Lanterns!

I'm really glad he was up for doing this with me, as I'd purchased the pumpkins and felt bad about not carving them. They went bad almost immediately, but were pretty for a little while.

Why is temporary art so very appealing to me?

I guess because everything is temporary. Everything changes. Even the Mona Lisa will be lost to time one day. I enjoy the tactile reality of that, in gourds, face paint, Burning Man pieces, performance art, candles, doodles, smoke ribbons.... active decay and transformation.

I think we're plenty playful (we have a zombie walk tooo!) but I don't know, maybe because Halloween is traditionally an autumn thing, all about death and decay? And... yeah, in October it's spring here!

We have the rugby sevens, which is just like Halloween with the dressing up and people walking the streets all day dressed as Rambo or slutty nurses or whatever. But then they all go to a boring stupid rugby game so I'm not into that. The fascinating thing is that people dress up in teams, like you'll see half a dozen Rambos or slutty nurses, all dressed exactly alike. It's very surreal.

Our suicide rate is huge too, but we don't have bad weather to blame for it!

Our election was today. The results are being counted. /o\
