serafaeryGot desperate enough at the farmers market today to try my old food stamp card. I know they let you carry over balances, but I didn't know for how long, and my card was from last year. Got declined as invalid. Not the end of the world; there was maybe a four dollar balance on it. But those dollars get doubled at the markets (up to ten). Sad I didn't use them sooner but that's okay.
A sweet silver haired lady approached me a couple minutes later at a vegetable vendor and gave me her ten doubled food tickets. "They're for you," she insisted when I tried to make sure she didn't need them for herself.
It's hard not to start crying in the middle of the market when stuff like that happens.
Bought extra mushrooms, and a mushroom tamale with 3 sisters mixtamal, from Sara.
