Supercommunicators notes
May. 14th, 2024 04:34 pmSimplifying greatly, there are three kinds of conversations that dominate most discussions:
These correspond to practical decision-making conversations, emotional conversations, and conversations about identity (social identities), are best captured by three questions:
What is this really about?
How do we feel?
Who are we?
(These three questions seem to kind of encapsulate how I feel while trying to figure out wtf life even is, tbh.)
Each of these types of conversations draws on a different type of mindset and mental processing.
When we have a conversation about choice, we're activating different parts of our brains than when we're talking about feelings, and if our mind doesn't align with the thoughts of our partners, we'll feel like we didn't fully understand one another.
