stolen goods, traveling afar

my old phone that got stolen is in south africa. i signed out of everything except google maps, so that i could see its movement. they changed their work address to south africa. it is really infuriating that verizon refused to do anything about it. i asked them to wipe the phone and brick it to make it unusable, and they said that would "violate customer privacy." uh it's your customer that's asking, dumbass. i also submitted a police report, with the person's email address who had it a month later (he changed passwords and usernames for logins and i found this in multiple places, he was in portland, he has a facebook account, he sells a lot of things and appears not to have a job), also nothing.
i really, really loved that phone. (it got left behind in a movie theatre on new year's day, the latest showing with like 5 people in the theatre. i went back the next morning, but the thief kept it - my fault for not having a lock screen on, i learned that lesson.)
