hummingbird rearing redux?
Mar. 22nd, 2022 08:22 pmwent out to the courtyard with lunar and tried to find mama hummingbird, was hoping to catch her feeding her babies so I would know she made it. saw one squeaking in a tree, followed her at a distance to the feeder, then a rhododendron bush, then a camelia, then she settled into this bush I don't know what it is but has big wide leafed palm looking leaves and these weird seed ball things of perhaps budding flowers of some sort?
and saw her in there, sitting on a nest.
no babies.
a totally different mama on a totally different 2nd brood nest.
omg.
now i have another family to follow, eeeeeeee.
Luckily there's no more pruning this season, and apparently her nest survived the gutter cleaning so far, I might put my sign under her nest tomorrow because they might not be done cleaning all the gutters yet?
never saw previous mama or her babies anywhere, but I'll keep an eye out. it's possible they've already left the courtyard in favor of friendlier, quieter, more flowery places. a few yards around here have lovely flower gardens and there are lots of feeders in the neighborhood.
