cedar waxwings.
Mar. 30th, 2022 10:24 amthe trees outside our kitchen window are filled with cedar waxwings, again. the trees are leafing slowly and the branches are bright green with tiny baby leaves, but the birbs are still finding a few of last year's little orange berries nestled inside somewhere. i love the way they pick the berry off the stem, hold it for a moment, and then toss it up and tip their head back to catch it lower in their beak to munch it without losing anything. they do this with the juniper berries, too. pick and toss and munch. they're calm about the whole thing, not gobbling. they take their time picking out each berry they want to snack on. nothing rushed about eating for them.
it's a cool dreary damp wednesday in the middle of the cooler part of spring. i have a mellow day ahead, will hopefully work on wings and only sparkle a couple of people. yesterday was too hectic. trying to take a beat, take some lead from the birds, and slow everything a little bit.
