serafaeryreminiscing about Zenyatta, that year while I was in Boston and became mysteriously enchanted by a race horse.
She won 19 of her first 20 starts, but lost the Breeder's Cup finally at the end, to a very fast male horse named Blame. She would have been the first female horse to break the record for winning 20 of her first starts, and it was an extremely close race, so very heartbreaking to witness, but also just phenomenal.
They throw birthday parties for her at her farm in Kentucky, where they are still breeding her, which is kind of crazy to me but I guess that's what you do with professional race horses.
After that first incredible year of racing, she later became a champion of older female horse racing, and is in the professional horse racing hall of fame.
I use her for inspiration when I run, often. I wish I could meet her but I don't see myself ever willingly going to Kentucky, sadly.
