* giving mario money today (he's my favorite portland transient and i wish our system didn't fail sweet people who suffer from neurological disorders through no fault of their own - despite the pain of his schizophrenia he is never aggressive, always polite and tries to smile whenever he is able, even in times of desperation - he looks worse than he did a year ago and i worry that we will lose him entirely. i've seen it happen before.)
