I usually quit drinking during lent, for 40 days, I did this a year or two ago, it's a nice little detox period. This year I started a couple weeks ago, after feeling yucky after a night out with Karissa and Gwen, and have since learned that rebuilding/restructuring synaptic function back to normal would actually take six to nine months or longer, sigh.

so, I dunno.

I remember the first two weeks always being the hardest. After that, I kinda stop thinking about it. (Unless something really bad happens.)

Just going to keep drilling it into my head that it isn't a good idea.

Things that happen when we quit:

--> Increased stress when not drinking (check)

--> Diminished mood and feelings of well-being when not drinking (check)

--> Wanting to drink even more to get back to baseline stress levels before they ever started drinking (if this means thinking about/desiring it more, then yes, a check here as well)

.....

Can I just please emphasize that my typical consumption level is VERY LOW - I drink maybe one drink or two weak drinks one or two nights per week, typically. Often less. Occasionally but rarely maybe more if there's a special event or holiday or party or something.

I'm not an excessive drinker by any typical human behavioral standard. I'd say I probably drink less than 90% of people I know.

But even at that minimal amount, it's doing bad things to my body and brain and I'm aware of that - this is not even to mention the increased cancer risks.

So, I'm trying something different, for a little while. Maybe until easter. Maybe until my birthday (May). Maybe until forever, we'll see.
