Snowless but not hopeless.
Dec. 12th, 2009 12:10 pmLast year's winter totally threw me off. I know this dance. Every winter we get a few days of freezing cold dry weather, with forecasters insisting it's going to snow heavily. Then we get a splash of freezing rain that all melts by 10am.
Then a couple weeks later, another wintery system comes in and the embarrassed forecasters insists it's nothing.
And it dumps four inches of snow on us.
I'm a Portland native, I know how this works. I just got my compass all spun around after last year's blizzard.
You can only predict snow by the smell, and the color in the air, and a mysterious tingle deep in the back of your spine that tells you to go buy some hot cocoa and make sure you have firewood chopped.
I didn't feel it last night but I let myself believe it would snow anyway.
Never again. Never forget! :D
