birbs (public)
Mar. 10th, 2022 09:19 amsweet lil grey jays. could not resist stealing a few moments with them. i always try to remember to bring a handful of nuts to teacup when i go cross country skiing there, even though i've only one other time seen grey jays when i was there. today was the day, and i had thankfully remembered to put a handful of nuts in my abominable yeti onesie, today.
(The crazy scratchy sound toward the end is one of the birds landing on my phone lol)
....
these lil birbs are nicknamed "camp robber birds" by the locals, they are known for being bold and stealing food, and landing on anyone with treats, so I am totally exploiting them for this trait but idc i love them so! They are so light and sweet and delicate. They have the softest sounds, like a quiet cooing song, so different than other corvids, more like a songbird.
(My husband exclaimed "whaaaaat?!" and gave me a big hug after I showed him this, lol.)
skied for about 3 hours, i did my two favorite hills, vista ridge and screamer, down and back up, three times each. so fun so fun. it was so beautiful. and peaceful. and fun.
but a little lonely.
